January 28th - Traditional Swan

This one was very simple and seems very elegant to me.  I realize now as I am looking at it that I should have taken the picture from the other side because there is no writing on the other white flap!  Oh well.  Tomorrow is another practice page and so was another day earlier this week so I am going to find a couple online to make while I am in a meeting and post those.  Should be pretty cool...

January 27th - Spider

This picture is so bad, but this little spider is so cool!  It was hard to make too!  I like him!

January 26th - Cool Paper Trick

This one turned out so neat, I just had to post the directions.  (They got a little cut off on the right, but you can still see all the steps.)  I looked at this for a while and couldn't figure out what it would make, but lo and behold, when you make the cut, this is what you get...

Cool!

January 25th - Four Step Sled

This sled is pretty neat and a little more old school than the other sled that I made earlier.  I'm not sure which one I like better.

January 22nd - Hummingbird

This one was a little weird to figure out at the end.  If you look closely you can see that I'm balancing it on a plastic spoon in the picture!  Ha ha!  This weekend is a weird project to make an indoor plant ornament.....
It involves glue and beads.....I don't really know if that is going to happen.  I might just find another origami online to make.  We'll see.  I'm running on toooooo much coffee today so I'm way too hyper.  Back to work for me!

January 21st - Snappy Puppet

This little puppet is probably my least favorite actual origami so far.  But, he is kind of cute, I guess.  At least it is better than doing practice folds.  And you have to love the post-it eyeballs!

January 20th - Puppy Finger Puppet

This one didn't turn out exactly like the picture, but it is still pretty cute.  This one was pretty cool because it started out exactly the same as the cat yesterday, but with a few slight changes, it is a totally different animal!  I'm still not sure how I feel about drawing on the origamis.  I don't know if it is the fact that I don't like my drawing skills or if I think it messes with the purity of the art of origami.  Either way, he looks pretty tired, so I think my feelings are coming out in my drawing!  Ha!

January 19th - Cat Finger Puppet

Just a quick post today since I am way behind on my work!  I have spent too much time playing with a cool new Outlook calendar (I know, dorky!) instead of writing the book I'm supposed to be finishing.  This is a cute little guy!  Meow!

January 18th - Lily

Today was just some more practice folds, so I folded this lily.  I like lilies...check my other one out....it's a stargazer lily.

January 16th/17th - Penguin Boat Ride

This is the first time I have attempted to draw on my origami.  I am not an artist by any means!  I like this little guy.  I don't really know why a penguin would need a boat, but maybe he's just the smart one.  He figures he can get there faster than all his little penguin buddies who are just waddling and swimming!  Go Penguin!

p.s.  I don't know why my posts are publishing down so far on the page......I'm sure it has something to do with this new layout.  It looked fine on my huge monitor at home, but is all wonky on my regular monitor here at work....hmmm, it looks like I might have to change my layout again.  Sorry about that.  I'm new to blogging.  I'll figure it out soon!

New Look!

No origami for this one, but I re-did the blog.  I really liked the template for the other one, but it was really hard to read for some parts and so I thought it needed to change.  I do like this one a lot!

January 15th - Vase

I had an extra sheet of paper and 15 extra minutes, so here is a vase that I found instructions for on my new favorite blog (other than mine)!  Hopefully I'll have some origami flowers to put in it soon.  Here's to a great weekend!

January 15th - Good-N-Plenty Dragon

Today's calendar page was just some practice folds for this weekend's very cute project.  Be sure to check Monday's post to see that one.  So I decided to use some of the extra paper from earlier this week when I also just had some practice folds and didn't get to do anything.  So, I decided to go online and look up some directions for something to make.  I found this really great blog with directions for a dragon!  I couldn't stop thinking about Good-n-Plenties while I was making this....you can't tell that well from the picture, but the paper looks like it has Good-N-Plenties all over it.

January 14th - Peppy Envelope

I wish this envelope had some chocolate in it - then it would be really peppy!  Better quality pictures coming soon!

January 13th - Bench

I'm feeling like I could use a better camera than my cell phone, but don't really have one....maybe I can work on that.  This is a cute little bench.  Speaking of benches...or benchmarks, rather....I have 11 followers here already!  Yay!  My goal by the end of the year is to have 100!  Tell your friends to come follow me and see what origamis I create.  Thanks.

January 12th - Canoe

Two eskimos were paddling their canoe between the icebergs while hunting for food. It was very cold so the one in the back of the canoe made a small fire to keep them warm. Unfortunately it quickly burnt through the bottom of the canoe and it sank. Luckily they managed to swim back to land. One eskimo said to the other...."Well, that just shows you can't have your kayak and heat it too."

January 11th - Cupboard

When I saw the directions for this origami, I was a little disappointed because it was so boring.  I mean only 3 folds!  I didn't even get to do one for the weekend!  (More on that later....)  But I figured, if I am really going to stick with this, I have to make every single one...
So, here is the cupboard.  Three folds.  You could make this with your eyes closed...seriously, I'm tempted to try it right now.  Anyway, I made this and then I got an idea.  You usually put stuff inside a cupboard, right?
Ha ha ha!  The raincoat goes in the cupboard!  Okay, I had to get to work for an early meeting this morning and I was up late late late last night, so I'm running on coffee and M&Ms.  But this is cracking me up!

Jan 8th - Penguin

You can really tell from this one how the one-a-day calendar works.  I use the directions page from yesterday to make the origami for today.  That's why you can see yesterday's date showing.  Ah well, I still like this little penguin, and it seems it is as close to snow as we will get here in Wilmington, even with the 2 hour delay and mass hysteria all around.  It was actually warmer today than it has been all week!  Go figure!

Jan 7th - Parakeet

When I was a kid I got a pet cat and named him Doogie Housecat after the show Doogie Howser.  I also had a parakeet named Vinnie....because of course Vinnie was Doogie's best friend on the show.  I can now see the irony of that naming choice.
I'm now caught up with my origami posting.  Thanks LD for suggesting that I blog about my origami project.  This should be an interesting year in folding!  Let's hope for no papercuts!
Happy Birthday KEN!

Jan 6th - Raincoat

I must be a little stircrazy but all I can think of is that I need a little origami man to wear this so he can flash people!  I know....maybe I need a little origami break.  There's no origami this weekend, just a tips page....which I am pretty bummed about, but do have a lot to do on Monday and probably won't have time to catch up on a weekend origami anyway.  Plus, thinking about little origami men flashing in little origami raincoats is more than a little origami disturbing!

Jan 5th - Dove

I really like this one...I think it turned out particularly nice.  I was a little nervous though because I had to cut it to make it!

Jan 4th - Sled...I just need some snow!

This is the sled.  This is perfect for the weather we are having in Wilmington now.  The first 5 days this January have been the coldest on record for Wilmington!  Yikes!  I want my warm weather back.  I slept in a sweatshirt and flannel pants last night!  However, it will not snow.  There might be 2 flakes tonight and they have already announced a 2 hour delay for the schools....gotta love the South!

January 2nd - 3rd - Dog's Head

This looks a little like my dog Buddy with the ears flopping over like that.  This one was easy to make and easy to photograph.

Happy New Year - January 1st

Today's origami is a Nightingale - a type of small bird with a beautiful song or that might make you think of Florence Nightingale (1820-1910) - an English nurse remembered for her work during the Crimean War.  She was also known as the Lady with the Lamp.

Origami Project

At the suggestion of one of my co-workers, I am starting a blog of the Origami Fold A Day Calendar creations that I will be making throughout the year.  I am not much of a blogger, but at least with this, I don't really have to write anything and I will have self-created topics almost every day.  There aren't origami's for every day of the weekends (this weekend just has tips - total bummer - and most weekends have one origami for the weekend as a whole).

So, stay tuned and see what I make.  The pictures aren't that great because I am taking them with my cell phone, but you get the idea.  Maybe each month I will take one of the whole group and then at the end of the year what a site my desk will be to behold!
