May 31st - Lily

My favorite flower.  I am waiting for mine to bloom in my yard.  They always do around this time of year.  I have only have 2 now, I usually have a lot more.  They are late bloomers this year.  I moved them to pots so they wouldn't take over my yard, so they aren't doing as well.  Check out the other lilies I have done.  They are all a little different.

May 27th - Rectangular Box

What am I going to put in all these boxes?

May 28th-30th - Baby Elephant

This is a two-parter...LOVE this!  Okay, I lied, I wrote that before I actually made the elephant just as a placeholder so all my May posts would show up under the May heading....I think this turned out just okay.  What I really loved was the picture in the calendar of what this was supposed to turn out like.  Eh, my folding is not so great at one in the morning.

May 25th - Spiked Tray

This is kind of like the interesting box I did a while back.  I think I like that one better.  Uh, is there a peanut in the box?  I am looking at the picture and it totally looks like there is a peanut in the box!  I did not put a peanut in there...how weird!

May 26th - Parrot

Polly want a cracker? I feel a faint sense of deja vu when I look at this as it looks very similar to the toucan I did a while back. Although I was very thankful for that when it came time to make this because I remember there was one fold that had me stumped for a bit on the toucan, so it was a breeze here on the parrot.

May 24th - Gecko Head

Eh, kind of boring, but it was created by a 12-year-old and I couldn't create a design, so what can I say?

May 21st - Iris

This is a pretty flower, but kind of harsh looking in origami. Much prettier in real life. Not to mention that this is a terrible picture.  Oh well.

May 20th - Propeller Hat

I think I actually had one of these when I was a kid!  I totally did!  It was from FAO Schwartz in New York City.  To be totally honest, I had to have been in high school when I got it.  I mean, what was I thinking wearing a propeller beanie in high school?  I was really too cool for my own good.  ;)  Not at all.

May 19th - Ducky

Dorky Ducky...

May 17th - Ostrich

This is one cool bird!  Although I don't really think it looks that much like an ostrich.  Ostriches aren't this pretty.  This bird is pretty.  I would like it better if it stood up though.  This picture was a lucky shot.  This thing could have fallen over at any time!

May 16th - Jacket

Looks like a chef's coat to me.

May 14th/15th - Tutu

I don't actually mind that there isn't an origami person to go along with this.  I like the abstract line-drawing girl that I drew here.  Her head might be a little small for her body, but still very cool and artistic looking.  This seems very simple, but was actually kind of difficult to make.  I like it.

May 13th - Frog

I was making this frog one day when I realized I had already made it, so now I have twins! I have no idea what I was supposed to be making. Maybe a lily pad?
By the way, these frogs wear open toad shoes.

May 11th - Zebra (Weiner Dog)

The doesn't look at all like a zebra to me.  More like a weiner dog.  We used to have a weiner dog named Sam when I was a kid.  He looked just like this little guy.
Zebra....whatever!

May 10th - Butterfly

Nothing like the end of the month to get me posting!  I have a lot of catch up to do!  Later for that, just pics for now.  Check in later for updated posts...okay, so I am trying to update these posts to say a little more about each one.

I couldn't actually figure out this one, so I made it up.  I got half way through the instructions, couldn't make sense of the rest and just improvised the end.  I think it turned out okay.

PHiZZ Unit - Pentagon Hexagon Zig Zag Unit

This is a modular origami unit I got from a website with instructions designed by Thomas Hull.  It has 30 modules made from 3 different colors.  The colors are not supposed to touch anywhere on the unit, however, as I was finishing the construction last night I couldn't figure out what I did to mess that up and there are at least 2 spots where the same colors touch.  No matter, I still think this is very pretty.

May 6th & 7th - Blossom & Flower

The thing I like best about this blossom and flower is that they stay assembled together quite well with out any type of extra (i.e. sacreligious) materials such as glue or tape.  Origami enthusiasts are very against anything other than just folds in origami.  Even cutting is frowned upon unless absolutely necessary.  But this blossom is very secure, and would be a great flower to hand to someone as a gift!

May 5th - Pig

If a pig is sold to the pawn shop is it then called a ham-hock?
If you can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear what can you make with it?
If you pushed a pig down a hill would he be a sausage roll?
What do pigs say when they don't want to do something? Would it be 'Yea when humans fly'?
Why do we call them guinea pigs when they are neither from Guinea nor are they pigs?
Why is it that only pigs and humans can get sunburn?
Why is it that the first thing we try to do after killing a pig is to cure it?
Would a small pig be called a hamlet?

May 3rd & 4th - Big Footed Bird

This two-day origami created a bird body and some huge bird feet using the pig base.  This poor litte guy probably got made fun of a lot in little birdie school, but you know what they say about big feet.....big shoes of course!

Interesting Box

Another piece I made with my double sided origami paper.  A neat little box that displays the inside and outside with some interesting flaps and tabs that stick out at the edges and corners.

Kusudama Star

This is another modular origami, but only took 6 modules to make and I consider it to be a little bit cheating because I had to glue the modules together.  I think if you are going to have modules, they should fold together.  But whatever, I still really like this and it gave me a chance to use some of my fancier, two-sided origami paper.  I think this will make a lovely Christmas ornament on my tree this year!  Click here for directions on how to make this for yourself!

May 1st & 2nd - Dino, Part 2

Here is the finished Origamisaurus!  He's a friendly species, doesn't eat much and, in fact, makes a great office pet!  He prefers a bright desk environment with lots of activity around.  Beware though, watch where you put your pencil, this dinosaur in not desk trained and you might find yourself with a soggy spitball where you didn't want one!
