April 30th - Dino, Part 1

This is the first part of the dinosaur.  I need a great name for this particular species...maybe foldasaurus or origamus?  Check back tomorrow to see the completed animal and his official dino name!

April 29th - Rooftop

Personally, I think this looks more like a tent than a rooftop, but considering there is no flap to lift to get inside, then the rooftop does seem more fitting.  Although, a roof without a building of some sort does seem rather peculiar.  I think maybe this roof needs a building....thoughts?

April 28th - Bull Skull

Can't you just envision this fossil on the side of the road in New Mexico or somewhere like that?  No?  Well, try harder....I can!

April 26th - Woodpecker

I remember as a kid loving Woody Woodpecker (I can hear his little laugh now.) and he wasn't nearly as freaky looking as this bird.  This thing will scare the bejesus out of you!

April 23rd - 25th - Rose

This rose had a part one and a part two that took up a whole weekend!  AND I needed a toilet paper cardboard roll to make it work.  This one was a lot easier than the directions let on, but I don't really like it....maybe I can find another technique and post that one later...for the time being, this bud's for you!

Shirt & Tie Challenge

My friend Jada sent me a link to a great You-Tube video on how to fold this origami and I took it as a challenge.  I keep a few $2 bills on hand to fold money folds and I had 2 left.  Now I only have 1!  I love this little shirt and tie!  I think it is so much cooler than the shirt I did at Rum Runners without the tie.  Thanks for the challenge Jada!  This is really neat!

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday to Cameron!  I made my friend Cameron some origami flowers to celebrate her birthday today (even though it is tomorrow) and brought in cupcakes for us and some other friends to eat!  I just love how these flowers turned out.  They are small, made with 2" square paper.  I'm excited because I also get to celebrate my friend Jamie's birthday tomorrow!  Double-birthday Saturday!  Woo hoo!

I'm Totally Impatient!

Well, I was collecting the pages from my calendar that I wasn't folding because they were practice pages and using them to create a modular origami (that is an origami that uses multiple pieces of paper).  The problem is that I needed 30 modules.  That would have taken me until October to get that many calendar pages!  I know, I looked ahead!  I totally couldn't have waited that long!  So, I bought some paper (check out the flowers I made for my co-workers) and folded and assembled all the modules to finish this star.  I think it turned out great!

April 22nd - Plant a Tree

Earth Day!  This was hard to make and I don't really get what it is.  Is it supposed to be a dirt cup that you carry dirt and a seed in and then plant them together to grow a tree in your backyard?  Whatever?  I don't like how this turned out at all.  I think it looks okay....but not with the title "Plant a Tree".  Maybe it would look good as a pocket square in someone's jacket.  I think that would be a lot better!

April 21st - Fast Airplane

The only place this plane flew fast was to the floor!  So, either I threw it badly or I'm just not good at making airplanes.  I used to make pretty good ones out of regular paper when I was in school, so maybe origami airplanes are just not my forte!  It looks pretty cool though with the raised wings and the lowered cockpit area.  I like that.

Non-Calendar Origami - Happy Administrative Assistants Day!

I am really getting into origami lately (yes, even more than normal) and I bought some origami paper at the craft store.  I offered to make some origami flowers for our administrative assistants to thank them for all they do for us!  I used some flower-print paper to make day lilies and some circle print paper to make regular lilies.  Then we put them in some empty saki bottles and viola!  They turned out pretty cool.  I wasn't there for the presentation, but got a very nice thank you note.  And the best part is, these flowers will never die!

April 20th - Sit-Up Pup

This pup can sit.  Did I mention that Buddy can sit too?  He can also lie down and go to bed.  He can play fetch, but gets tired out after only a few throws and isn't really that great at giving back the toy.  :)
I checked with a local service dog organization and they are full and can't take him.  I won't put him in a shelter...so he is with us until I find him a loving home.  Is that your home or someone you know?  Post a comment...

April 19th - M is for Meow

First of all, I LOVE this new color!  Okay, yeah, I think I am definitely a cat person.  But...I have a dog.  He is pretty cool, but he is huge and more than we thought he would be to handle.  I don't play with him the way I should...:(  Anyone want to adopt a dog?  Seriously.  No, really.  He is great with kids, he will give them doggy kisses.  And he will protect your home with his loud bark.  Sigh, I'm sad to put him up for adoption, and I'm not really trying very hard to find him a home, I'm hoping that those folks at my house who aren't in love with him will come around.  Leave a comment if you're interested.

This Year in Origamis So Far

I took home all my origamis to take pictures of all of them and when they were all off my desk, I realized how much better my desk looked!  I totally thought I could keep all of them out on my desk for the whole year....um, and that's not going to happen.  Soooo, every time the color changes, I am going to put away the ones I have out.  But I'll try to take a picture of all the same colors ones together before I put them away.  Check out all of the origamis from this year so far.  This is nutso!  Just to give you an idea of the perspective, this is the corner of my couch covered with a sheet!  That's a lot of origamis!

April 18th - Teeny Origami

In order to make the Picture Perfect frame, I had to cut off four one inch squares from the corners.  "Hey, little tiny origami paper!" I thought.  I just had to make some tiny little origamis from the squares.....they are totally AWESOME!  Check it out.  Three of them are little versions of ones I have already done (butterfly, lily, and starburst box) and I also did a crane.

Modular Update

So, I have been saving my extra pages that are practice folds to make a modular origami piece.  I need a total of 30 pages to make it.  I have 9 so far.  The picture on the left is of the outside, the one on the right is of the inside.  I'm still not exactly sure how it will all come together, but it is pretty neat so far.
If I took this all apart and cut each paper into 4 smaller squares, I could have 36 and go ahead and make it....hmmm, that's something to consider.....check back to see if I do that.  I mean, I was crazy enough to retake and repost all the pictures, so this would be nothing!

April 16th - Unusual Picture Frame

This frame is so cool and much easier to change out the pictures whenever you want.  This picture is of Kenny (10 months) and Charlotte (almost 3) on the Garden Tour for the Azalea Festival last weekend.  She dressed up like an Azalea Belle and wanted to find all the real belles.  It's a huge step up from last year when she was scared of the belles!

April 15th - Picture Perfect

I didn't think my kids could get any cuter!  Look at this!  Charlotte is just the best big sister you could ever ask for and Kenny loves her so much, just look at that huge smile!  They are the greatest!  And this frames them perfectly.  I couldn't ask for anything more!

April 14th - Bananas

Well, of course, where you have monkeys, you must have bananas.  At my house, these were called "nanas" for a long time.  This might not present a problem at your house, but my mom is my kids' Nana, so we were a little concerned that Charlotte would start to think that my mom was a giant yellow fruit that you eat.  Eventually she learned how to say it the right way.  Now we have the fruit and the grandparent and only one more kid to teach the difference when he starts talking!

April 13th - Hanging Monkey

What is not to love about a monkey?  Monkeys are just the best.  They are cute, cuddly, funny and they like to pick things out of each other's fur to eat!  Again, I ask, what's not to love?

Blog Visitors from the World Over

I am totally excited!  I installed these new widgets on my blog the other day and one of them tells where the people who are looking at my blog are from.  I had people from California, Arizona and two from the UK!  Okay so if you do that math, that's only 4 people, but I am still totally excited about it.  AND I now have 20 followers!  I only need 80 more to reach my goal....come on...you know you want to be a follower too...origami is so fun!  And I'm fun and if you put the two together, you get double fun, so what's not to love about that?  Oh, I think I might have overloaded on the fun...gotta run.

April 9th - 11th - Carnation and Stem

This was a multi-part origami with the carnation and the stem.  Carnations are my least favorite flower.  I really like Gerbera daisies or lilies better, even roses.  But for an origami flower, this is okay.

April 8th - Candy Dish

Notice there is no candy in this dish....my husband and I are planning on starting a new exercise program that is supposed to be REALLY hard core.  So, no candy for me.  I have to get fit to keep up with these little youngins I have running all over the place!

April 7th - Mommy and Baby Bird

I was biting off little pieces of food the other day and then giving them to my 10 month old son and my husband asked me if I was chewing them up like a bird and feeding them to him.  I just didn't have a knife to cut the pieces small enough!  That's a mom for ya!  Make do with what you have!

April 6th - Trout

This is by far the pretties trout I have ever seen.  Trout may taste good, but they are not a pretty fish.  This one looks a little shocked....maybe he is about to be caught!

April 2nd - 4th - Cross Bookmark

This was a 2 day project using an origami technique called the slit form where you cut most of the way through the paper once it is folded in fourths.  With this and the bunny bookmark, I need to find more time to read...and a way to stay awake while I'm reading!
